Ugh. Those were dark days in Indy500land. I remember it well, but wish I didn’t.
Trivia time!
Without searching the interwebs, does anyone remember what “celebrity” drove that pace car?

Night morning, I’m in Indianapolis right now visiting my cousin who works at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway lol

I had to look it up. I wouldn’t have guessed in a trillion tries, and I won’t spoil the answer, but man, that was a dark time indeed.
You’re definitely right in putting “celebrity” in quotations.
And speaking of Indycar, me and the wife and kiddos are down here in St. Louis for the weekend and are going to Gateway tonight. I’m REALLY hoping Rossi somehow finds some redemption after last weekend’s debacle at Pocono. Qualifying wasn’t great, but we’ll see. It’s the kiddos’ second Indycar race ever so they’re super excited (Newton was their first). The 3-year-old is still learning most of the drivers but knows a few, but the 5-year -old almost knows the entire field! He sees the car or even just their number and knows who 90% of them are. Blows my mind! I'm thinking next year may be the year to take the older one to his first 500.
Anyway, h oping for a great race !

You’ve done sent me down a rabbit hole of Olds Indy 500 pace cars.
There were a few pretty interesting ones.

I appreciate your honesty :)
I honestly can't decide which is lamer. That "celebrity" driving the pace car, or that whole Gene Simmons "I am Indy" debacle.
Oh, you should definitely go to the race tonight! I went to the first one back there a couple years ago, and wow is that a cool place to watch a race! I wanted to go again this year, but couldn’t make the schedule work.

Ah... the absolute worst of the gmt360 platform.
Let’s see: no 5.3 V8 option (only one NOT to have it) , ugliest exterior, ugliest interior (low trim version shared with TB, but worse due to fake wood ), and the shortest production run.
I liked the TBSS and Aero GMT360's when they came out. I even thought the Rainier was OK. But the Bravada is categorically no good. The LL8 is a decent enough engine, but it doesn’t redeem this SUV at all for me.

I’m pretty excited too, maybe more than the kids lol. It’s my first ra ce at Gateway and I've been wanting to hit it up for years.

You are going to love it!

Alright, I’ve waited long enough. The driver of the Bravada pace car was ... John Mellencamp’s wife (now ex- wife).

Well, the day keeps getting better. We’re at the City Museum and just a bit ago ran into Colton Herta, Kyle Kaiser, an Indy Lights driver whose name escapes me, and some Indycar and NBC Sports photographers.
Colton said “Hey guys!” to me and my 5-year-old on one of the tunnels outside and I got to wish him luck for the race, to which he said a big thanks.
I was already a fan of the kid, but this was way too cool!

That's awesome! Colton is my wife's favorite driver. She's wearing his shirt right now, for luck :)
